Clara the Mermaid

Clara is a guardian of the seas. She holds a banner reading 'Fair winds and fine weather', a greeting that brings to mind sunny, breezy days with sparkling seas. She carries a sailing ship, she wears a hat decorated with white coral and her tail is highly patterned. A white coral heart swings on a wire from her chest.

I make each piece from earthenware clay, fired, she was hand painted, glazed and refired; each piece is unique. She has a secure hanger on the back. She measures 12cm horizontally from elbow to tail tip, 14.5 cm vertically from hat to tail bend and 18cm vertically from hat to the bottom of the heart.
